Bring the gritters back
Would anyone else like to see Gritters back on the estate?
I left for Derby yesterday at about 6:50. By 6:53 I nearly spun out at the small roundabout joining the estates together. Not down to speeding but to the sheet of ice that covered the roundabout (and John Rhodes Way).
Please respond as we need a large consensus something done. Guests and Users feel free to comment on this thread.

Whats new on Bankeyfields
Yes it is a bit daunting down near the roundabout, i laughed when i saw a set of tyre prints in the snow that someone had reversed back onto the correct lane after spinning out!!!
I am sure there have been a few near misses coming off our estate onto RMW as it was sheer glass this morning. It would be nice if we could get it gritted.

I was ready to poop my pants as the car slowly slid to a halt just on the round about of death.
I know this is an idea for another thread but would mirrors such as the ones you see on country lanes to allow farmers to pull out of their drives without getting thumped by another car be an option for our roundabout.
At least you'd have an idea of the traffic coming down. I can't think of a reason why not.
Anyway, if any one is walking the dog tonight, would you mind popping down to the roundabout edge and take a picture of how icy it is.
Deffo needs to be gritted. If anyone were to skid on some of the main roads on the estate, they could rack up quite a bill with all the cars parked all over the place. Alos not helped by the person who decided to park their car in the road between the roundabout of death and the mini roundabout between the two estates.
I followed him down JRW, and he stopped in front of me, without warning or indication. You can imagine the words which crossed my mind as I tried to stop or steer round him in my parents' car!
Oh that's another soap box story- Avoid Lexus Stoke with the plague! My IS has broken down twice in 6 days, and they have now had the vehicle for 8 days, with no contact. That said, I have written to reject the car, and they have both keys and the V5 document. Excellent customer service when we bought the 2 of them. NOT SO GOOD now there's problems. They would give me a courtesy car for 3 days apparrently. So, what, I wonder, am I supposed to do for the other 5 days so far that I then would have had no courtesy car.
Any solicitors on here that can offer me some advice?
That car was well parked this morning about 2ft away from the kerb and he was scraping his windscreen to clear ice with his son watching.............. How Pathetic, look mate go out 5 mins extra and let your car defrost before trying to drive whilst looking through a pinhole, it will save an accident and your obvious valuable time.
Rant over.

What had happened? Some one drove off their drive/parking space with their windows iced up.
It's not like theres been a day or twos notice with the icy weather we've had.
Glad the idiot had some sense as to not risk His Sons, His own and everyone elses li on the round about of death.
The roads were bad enough as they were without this sort of nonsense
When I left this morning it had not started to snow but still a good layer of ice on the bottom of Spitfire by the small roundabout. Getting up Mustang Close when there has been a bit of snow a partial thaw then a good freeze is always entertaining. Especially when Dawson tried to get his Porsche up with us all pushing.Last winter the gritter reversed right up Mustang good effort I thought

I don't know if this will be the right department, but sounds right to me.
Email them, and if you could, post on here or vote on the latest poll, so we can get an idea of coomplaints.
Cheers

Whilst me and James (the vet) were dropping some grit on John Rhodes Way Ramp when a police patrol were looking for suspicious characters.
Well James fitted the bill perfectly
and they had a word.
Any word, the two police officers contacted the council to try and get a gritter onto the estate as a few motorists were having real problems entering the estate.
The council did come back to the officers and told them that they had to make sure all major routes were gritted first, but would if able come onto the estate.
One knowledgeable chap who lived in Canadian commented on this is Staffordshire today.
Comical it really is. I lived in Canada for 2 years, I woke many times in the winter to minus 40 and snow up to 3 feet high over night. Amazingly schools stayed open we were all expected to be at work. We are really a pathetic weak nation

Doesn't look like the gritter came.
Ihad two words to say to them too...
Gritter please
It looked utter chaos this morning exiting the estate so I choose to walk the my lad to school, rather than slide the car all over the shop and then risk the R.O.D.
I took a quick peep before making my mind up and all I saw were cars sliding down to the mini roundabout from both sides, then waiting for 10 mins before 1 kind soul would let them off the ice rink.
On the way to school I was surprised to see the traffic lights at the top of Reginald Mitchell Way switch on automatically, working as a contra-flow system.
Did it work? Did it leave you any gaps to exit the roundabout or did it pack all of the cars up more?
I'm sure you lot will let me know.
One last mention has to be the Taxi driver who was dropping someone off in George Eardly close.
As he was aware of where he was going and also aware that I had started to cross the icy road, he still just pulled into the close with out using his indicators. Muppet!
Who on earth asked for the gritter!!!!!!!!!!!!
There i was parked between the 2 rounabouts giving my customer his repaired equipment back when the gritter came off Reginald and onto our mini roundabout then back round and drenched me amd my customer full of slushy grit, o i was so happy all up my trendy trackies and trainers..........
He did not go onto either estate though just between the roundabouts...

LMAO - these things keep happening to you, it's going to give Steve hours of fun p@&s taking.
Popeye I am chuffed to NAFFI breaks it serves you right for stopping there you were having a good old moan about idiots stopping there not so long ago. Free drinks for the councill gritting team I think.
I woke this morning to find our small cul-de-sac gritted even my steps and neighbours pathways, very strange. Ive sent thanks to my local Cllrs to find out who did it local volenteer or council, and for them to pass on thanks
very odd, it is Xmas season, I know but Council giving out gifts
Hi,
I'v emailed enquiries@stoke.gov.uk as per
http://www.stoke.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/transport-and-streets-/snow-clear...
saying how bad it is and how I've had a near miss road accident and asking for gritters to come back.
Please email them, the more requests they receive the better chance of progress.
Cheers
Mark.
As of 18/12/08 the council have agreed to my request and will grit the mini round about between the two estate.
However it's not policy to grit the smaller roads on the estate, so they have also agreed to drop off two yellow grit bins for the steep roads leading to the mini round about.
Hopefully the estate roads will be a safer place from now on.
A pleasing outcome I'm sure you'd agree. Jobs a good un.
Cheers
Mark
Hi Mark
Fantastic outcome.
Thank you.
Matt
Great news mate this will benefit everyone. Have they said where the bins will be located ?.
You know, of course, that our council being as efficient as it is, we wont actually receive the bins until about June.
